Hi ARCHWAY ENGLISH STUDENTS!

See the assignments and info below for homework and other things of interest!!

SIXTH GRADE:

On Friday we did our first creative writing exercise using Van Gogh's famous picture "Starry Night."
You were given two options:
a)  Write a description of the painting. Use detail! Think about the landscape, the colors he used, and the perspective of the artist. What do you see in this painting? What do you think the artist is trying to convey to the viewer?
OR you could
b)  Write an original story using the painting Starry Night as the setting. Let your imagination go wild! Be creative!
EITHER OPTION WILL BE DUE NEXT FRIDAY, SEPT. 7 during creative writing workshop.
Here's a link to a copy of the painting if you want to look at it while you're writing!

On Friday you started your first vignette about a member of your family. Remember to use "sensory" (the five senses) language. Use three metaphors/similes in your writing. Tell a story about this person in your family. Remember that vignettes are short, descriptive snap shots of an event or person. Model your story on Sandra Cisneros' writing in The House on Mango Street.
THIS ASSIGNMENT WILL BE DUE ON FRIDAY, SEPT. 7 during creative writing workshop.

Remember that you do not have to share your personal writing with anyone. It's just for you!  Please prepare an original piece of writing (your choice) for Friday for our first creative writing workshop. Your NEW page requirement (minimum) is two pages.
